Blogging

Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!

Blogging

Blogging is an incredible way to increase the SEO (search engine optimization) for your website while providing value to your community. It helps you establish yourself as an authority and provide information to potential clients about who you are and how you see the world.

Tips:

  • Consider what types of questions or concerns that your ideal client may be “googling” and write about these topics.
  • Have your blog as a page on your website and try to set up a consistent schedule to release new content.
  • You can also do podcasts if you are at better speaking (audio recordings) or Video Blogs (video recordings) and have these posted to your blog.

Consider your comfort level and choose what feels like the best fit for you.

Mailing lists

If you are going to collect emails from clients in order to send them your blogs or a monthly newsletter, you MUST familiarize yourself with the new Canadian Anti-SPAM Legislation fightspam.gc.ca

Canada now has one of the strictest guidelines in the world for emails with extremely high fines for those who are not following the rules. A basic run down is you need to have explicit permission to email people anything that could be considered promotional and that definition is quite broad. So if someone gives you their email for one thing, you cannot assume they want to sign up for something else and add their name to that list.

For example, just because someone becomes your client and gives you their email, does not mean you have permission to add them to your newsletter list. Clients need to “opt-in” to any mailing list and must have the option to unsubscribe at anytime. If you are considering adding a mailing list to your practice, please, please, PLEASE read the above link.

For the record, just because you have a blog, does not mean you need to collect email addresses and send things out to people.  Only create a mailing list if you have a specific reason to do so.
